5 ways living in the moment can boost your business

on

As a busy entrepreneur, business owner, coach and mentor, I have learnt that living in the moment can come in handy when running a successful business.

My two pole dancing studios leave me juggling the day to day commitments of running a business, leading a team and creating positive change for women.  To get the most out of my time, I have found the best way to do everything that needs to get done is to focus on the task at hand with undivided attention.   This means its time to give up multi tasking and instead focus completely on the task at hand, this in turn helps bring focus, clarity and better decision making.

Here are some tips on giving each business task complete focus, and the benefits that come from this.

1. Learn to switch off distracting thoughts

Turning off distracting thoughts is easier said than done, but it can be achieved. You just need to learn to step away, take a moment and refocus your mind. It involves practise, but over time this unwavering focus becomes easier.

Learning to switch off distracting thoughts through focusing on the task at hand will bring a true connection to those around you with complete presence.

This lesson has also helped me in my day-to-day life too. Whenever you are feeling stressed or anxious, focus on what I’m doing at that particular moment, putting a conscious stop to allowing your mind to wander.

2. Living in the present helps you focus

When you are thinking about the future of your business in an unproductive way, you are giving up your personal power and instead hypothesizing about what could happen rather than what is happening.

Create an awareness of what is going on around you.  Too often we seem to be focused on our phones, our emails or worrying about the future.

Focusing on the task at hand will also enable you to make quick decisions instead of juggling a million things at once.

3. Mix up your work routine

If you do the same thing every day it can become easy to lose yourself in your work routine. By mixing up your day-to-day office tasks, which could be something as simple as going somewhere different on your lunch break or having a meeting in a coffee shop instead of the boardroom, you can break up your routine.

Changing your routine like this can help you to become more aware of your surroundings, allowing you to notice everything in the present moment.

4. Appreciate your down times

There are few times where we get a break at work, because we often have hectic schedules that give us little free time. But when we’re forced to wait for something – perhaps for a college to deliver an item of work or complete a process, we should take the time to reflect rather than feel frustrated.

Be grateful for these moments rather than irritated and impatient. Notice and observe what’s happening around you and breathe deeply, meditating on what’s happening in the moment.

Not only will this help you to retain focus, but it’ll also fill you with gratitude and help you to relax.

5. Accept the challenge to live in the moment

I challenge you to take up the challenge of living in the moment.  No matter where you are – out with friends, working in your business shopping or at the supermarket looking for something to cook that night – take the time to completely disconnect from everything except the task at hand.  I promise your mind will thank you for this.

Life has sped up over the years.  If we all took the time to enjoy the precious moments as they happened, we would save ourselves a lot of stress. Practise mindfulness and create happiness.

Remember – don’t ponder on the past, or contemplate the future, just be here now. Do you accept the challenge?
