Nowadays, digital marketing is huge, as it should be! There are countless digital marketing stats that point to repeated success for businesses. You should definitely be taking your business online and promoting it there.

But, you shouldn’t be leaving out traditional forms of marketing. Sure, some of these ways are now outdated and largely useless (like advertising on AM radio or offering a free VHS when you sign up) but there are still plenty of old-school marketing techniques that can still help promote and grow your business.

With the advent of email, one would have thought direct mail would eventually fall by the waste side. Now, however, direct mail thrives as it means higher response rates and easier retrieval.

People are more likely to respond to direct mail than they are to email, meaning you shouldn’t ditch that mail campaign just quite yet.

Signage

Besides word-of-mouth marketing, there probably isn’t an older form of advertising out there. Signage works because of its low cost over time rate. You’ll want to find top quality signs in order to make sure they last for years to come.

Signs don’t just have to be on storefronts, as they can be on public transport vehicles, benches, public spaces, and much much more. Signage allows you to get creative with your advertising and placement.

Flyers

Much like direct mail, flyers are a chance to show off creativity and generate a high response rate among potential consumers.

Flyers usually work best for local businesses, who are able to leave them around town as well as hand them out in person. They are essentially cheap, walking advertisements that can reach hundreds of people in little time. Embrace the power of the handout.

Promo gifts

Even though you shouldn’t be handing out any VHS tapes any time soon, promo gifts are one of the older marketing tactics that still see plenty of success today.

Having something physical can go a long way for a customer instead of having them head to your website or wait for an email code. The promo could be anything, like discounted service, an extra product, or some other item altogether that they could use. Feel free to get creative!

Interacting more with customers

If you’ve been involved in sales or marketing for a long time, you know that it’s much easier and cheaper to retain an existing customer than it is to go out and find a new one.

One of the best ways you can keep up relationships with your customers is by talking and listening to them. You can ask about their store experience, the products they’re using, or simply about their regular lives.
