How to make money while you sleep

With the ever-increasing volume of people on social media, it makes sense to capitalise on this growing trend. Whether you’re starting a side hustle or growing an online business, it’s a great place to start branching into if you want to make money online, and the best part is you can do it all whilst you sleep. According to data shared by Aimia, 31% of consumers say they are using social media channels to browse for new items to purchase and out of the billions of people with active social media accounts, you can leverage this no matter what industry you’re in. There are 4 main things you need to ensure you’re doing if you want to make money using social media:

1. Post original, entertaining content daily.

There is so much going on in people’s newsfeeds that it’s important to be SEEN and the newsfeed updates so quickly. So the more you post, the more chance you have of being seen throughout the course of the day.

For example, you might share some photos, a video that is relevant to your audience or entertaining to your audience. You could do a livestream where you are showcasing a particular product or service.

Mix it up and ideally, make it your own original content.

2. Don’t always sell something with every post

This might sound counter-intuitive because we’re talking about how to make money online; however; something that turns consumers off when they see you multiple times in their newsfeed, is when people are always selling.

Consumers need a reason to trust you and what you’re doing, so by sharing value-adding content it helps them to get to know you first.

For example, if you have a skin care range, you could share hints and tips daily without asking for a sale in every post that you do.

This helps your audience to get to know and learn to like you. This naturally will lead to them trust you and then buying from you when we use step 3.

3. You need to be making an offer (ie. selling) every day!

People need to be led by the hand so that they can understand how to take the next step when it comes to buying from you. Let them know, by sharing a link to the sales page or the directly link to the item you’ve been talking about in the post and be obvious about the fact that they can click on this link and purchase here.

A way that you could do this if you’re a freelance graphic designer for example, could be to share some tips throughout the day and then do a post online that shares how people can get you inside their business doing their graphic design work.

Eg. Have you seen some of the latest work that I’ve been featuring lately and love it? I’ve opened up 5 spaces to work closely with client projects over the next week. If you’d love to snap one up, click here and let’s get you booked in.

Or if you are clothing store, you can post some images of styled outfits throughout the day and then make an post saying “If you’ve loved the outfits we’ve showcased today, head here and order yours now” and you share the link to where they can go to do that.

If you are doing multiple posts per day educating and entertaining your audience, you can be sure that some of the people in your audience will jump at the chance to buy from you.

4. Automate the process as much as you can

This is where the wonder of modern technology is so helpful. When you set up a link so that people can buy from you, it doesn’t matter when they actually see your posts (sometimes it will be at 2am when your customers can’t get to sleep and they’re catching up on your posts from throughout the day), they have the ability to buy from you at any given time. You’re not reliant on having to have an open store that they can walk into in order for you to receive money and for them to get what they want.

For example, if you have a side hustle where you’re selling a product, you can have the link for people for people to click on in order for them to go directly to your website and buy. Then, when you get up the next day, you’ll have new orders to fill.
