2020 is still a good two years away, but for many in the U.S., there is an inherent desire to choose a better President the next time around.
And who better would be able to fulfil the President’s shoes than Oprah? That’s what many of us Americans are looking for, as they look towards Oprah to lead the way forward from the next election.

#Oprah2020 trended on Twitter for a very long time earlier this year. The hashtag was the result of a powerful speech delivered by none other than Oprah Winfrey. On the day of the Golden Globes, Winfrey received the Cecil B. DeMille award and stole the show with her words.
Oprah’s words touched people across the world despite their gender, place in the society, as well as their liking of the celebrity. Winfrey spoke about the gender roles in the industry, the MeToo and Time’s up campaign and how things are changing for the good. Her words, “A new day is on the horizon”, resonated with the entire audience and earned her a long standing ovation.
Speaking of the viral campaign, even Winfrey’s longtime partner Stedman Graham was quite intrigued about it and said that it’s up to the people. He believed that Oprah would most definitely run for president in 2020 if she wanted to. However, Gayle King, her best friend of decades said that she wasn’t quite sold on the idea.
However, Winfrey has rebutted all the rumours and has said that she won’t be running for the 2020 elections. Oprah made the statement public at the Jimmy Kimmel Live show when the host Jimmy Kimmel asked her directly if she was considering it. Oprah told a visibly saddened audience, “Where do I look into the camera? I am definitely not running for president.”
She further said that she was just surprised that after only a speech people started the campaign for her to be the next President.
Winfrey said that it was quite humbling that the people of her country thought that she was fit to run the office and the country. However, she said that after considering it for a while, she dropped the idea. Oprah told Kimmel that she did think about the idea for a while as she thought it was a sign but refused it quite soon.
Oprah was born into poverty and made her way to the top purely on her talent, hard work, and goodwill. She has been nominated for two Academy Awards in her career, is one of the wealthiest women on Earth, and has never shied away from speaking her mind. Oprah has been quite vocal about the current President’s involvement in various cases of sexual misconduct. This is one of the major reasons why the audience wants her to stand against Donald Trump in the upcoming elections. However, Winfrey doesn’t deem herself fit for the office and plans to focus on things she’s best at.
