Blogs are one of the most influential media outlets around.  With so many blogs covering virtually every topic, it’s no wonder that every blogger struggles to be seen. The only way to stay on top of the game is to keep up with blogging trends.  As technology becomes more sophisticated, bloggers now have the opportunity to connect to their audience in a variety of ways they couldn’t before.  Here are the essential tips you can use now to boost your blogging success.

Go from good to great with your content

Many bloggers make the mistake of adding too much content because they believe that the only way to remain relevant is to post often.  While this is true, bloggers fall into the trap of churning out information so quickly that it shows as mediocre work.  The reason the work starts to become diluted is because the blogger hasn’t taken the time to consider what is and what isn’t necessary to the integrity of the blog.  While everyone has their own style of blogging, attention spans seem to be shrinking.  The answer to this isn’t more content, but more quality content.  Ernest Hemingway said it best, “If I started to write elaborately… I found that I could cut that scrollwork or ornament out and throw it away.”  What he meant is that you need to know what you are saying and why, and the rest is frivolous.  If it isn’t absolutely relevant, if it doesn’t add something important to the piece, or if it makes you repeat yourself, then it is not good for your content.  Of course, this is up for debate, but in a world where we are constantly barraged with media from all sides, it may be best to take a good look at what your content is, edit it, and streamline it for success.

This doesn’t mean that you have to divulge the details of your personal life.  In fact, you don’t even have to show your face.  But many bloggers and video bloggers will attest that performing a Q&A or writing about what inspired them to create the blog in the first place strengthened the bond between the follower and the creator.  You may not be able to answer every individual comment or email, but you certainly can give a big thank you and show your followers how much you appreciate them.
