It’s now well into January and the rest of 2016 is racing towards you. Did you make lots of new plans for you and your business? Or have you just drifted into 2016 without a strategy or an Action Plan?
If you are already feeling stressed, overwhelmed and exhausted, it is time to put in place some simple steps to stop you from feeling frumpy, frustrated and frazzled – and blast through 2016 feeling fabulous.
1. Work-life balance
The first step is to make sure that you have a good work-life balance. It is no good having a successful career or business, if you never have time to spend with your family and friends.
You need to prioritise what it is that is your definition of success. If it is a big house and nice car, then fine, but remember it is no good having a big house if you are always in work and never have time to spend in it with the people that you care about.
2. Time management
Prioritize your time. You may well find it beneficial if you keep a calendar on your computer and phone and also a pretty one on your wall. When you do your diary, make sure that you put in time for lunch, travel time to meetings, time to dress and change your outfit if you are putting in time for the gym or sport and time to spend quality time with your family and friends.
If you allocate time in your diary for your personal needs, it will make sure that you have set aside time for important things for you as well as your business. If you allocate time to do your social media e.g. 1 hour morning and 1 hour evening, it will mean that you don’t waste 3 hours a day just posting and replying to things on your Facebook account when you should be working or with family and friends.
3. Ditch those emails
When emails first came out, they were a fantastic invention. They made such a difference to our lives. You didn’t have the expense and time factor of having to take things to the Post Office and wait a week for a reply and also you could answer when it was convenient to you. Emails are also very good in a business aspect, because unlike on a telephone conversation, you have an audit trail of conversations and contact details saved on your computer.
However, recently most business people complain that they are totally overwhelmed by the sheer amount of emails that they receive. Be ruthless. Unsubscribe from anything that is not useful to you and that you really don’t need. Go through the emails that you have and delete any that you will never have time to read and that you don’t need. You will be amazed at how delighted you will be when you are actually able to read the emails that you get, because they are not lost in a sea of junk.
4. Outsource
If you have tasks that take you hours to do, when you could hire a VA or an expert in that subject who would only take a fraction of the time that you take, it is commercial and business sense to do so. Whether it is responding to your emails, managing your Social Media or doing your book-keeping and accounts. This will free you up to do what it is that you are good at and save you a considerable amount of time every week.
Hire someone to come and clean your house and do your laundry. This means that every weekend you can spend time with your friends and family, rather than doing chores. Get someone to cut your grass or clean the yard. There are plenty of people out there who need work and who would be glad of some spare cash.
5. Turn off your devices
One of the biggest relationship issues nowadays is that people constantly check their emails and Social Media even when they are supposed to be spending time with their partners or children. Make a rule that there is no technology at the dinner table.
Set yourself a certain time in the evening or on weekends, when you turn off your phone or at least, put it on silent. Never, unless someone’s life depends on it, have your phone switched on at the side of your bed. All the research now proves that this has a definite detrimental effect on our health and well-being as well as the negative effect it has on your relationship.
6. Decide that you will feel fabulous in February
You have almost three weeks now to put in place these Action Plans and to start making changes to your life and your behaviour. Being stressed and overworked shows in your face, it affects your mind and your body. The sad thing is that most people who are suffering with overwhelm take it out on the people nearest to them their colleagues or their loved ones. Make sure that you are not that person.
Do you want to feel joyful, blissful and content?
Then you need to start taking steps to be kind to yourself and to nurture your health and well-being. Feeling fabulous is all about who you are inside and out. Being kind and nice to everyone around you and taking care of yourself. Being the best person that you can.
