Successful women | unleashing an inner 23-year-old

on

A 23-year-old woman often faces big challenges. She is usually fresh out of college, claiming independence and making an attempt to build a successful future. It often seems as if the decisions pile up and the answers come burdened with a deadline. Success usually takes time and work. And there are plenty of obstacles along the way. Several successful women faced turning points at age 23, when they made career-changing decisions.

The methods they used to overcome their individual struggles however, are applicable to our own careers and everyday lives while we strive to gain our own serious success.

Stevie Nicks

stevie-nicksCan you believe that Stevie was on the brink of giving up? Nicks was working as a waitress and cleaning lady in Los Angeles. She had a passion for music however and was determined to stay the distance and became one of the successful women.

Early on in her career she had opened for star names such as Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, but by this stage she had had no money, no name and slim chances to success.

Landslide was her light bulb moment. “I made a decision to continue. “Landslide” was the decision,” She said.

23-year-old Nicks teaches us to stay true to what we want and follow whichever avenue of success we are determined to achieve in. She taught us to be patient but not wait silently for an opportunity.

Jane Fonda

Jane FondaBeing born into fame didn’t make the road to what she wanted to do any easier. In fact her road became paved with elements of high pressure and expectation from her father, Henry Fonda. His daughter wanted nothing more than to please her father and make him proud.

She dropped out of college at age 23 to study abroad in Paris, turning towards modeling but eventually found an interest within acting more appealing.

“I was brought up that you have to be perfect… It took me a long time to get over all that,” she said.

Her ability to regain confidence would help her with endeavors later on in her life involving politics, feminism and the founding of Fitness Empire.

23 year-old Jane Fonda teaches us to reach for what we want regardless of expectations. Be courageous and confident in your ambitions.

Joan Didion –

JoanDidionJoan Didion is an American author known for both her novels and literary journalism.

Fresh out of college, graduating from University of California, the young writer was flown to New York after winning a writing competition for Vogue. She was quickly offered a job as a promotional copywriter – and this would be the only staff position of her entire career. She enjoyed her time with the magazine company, however her idea of success was much more drastic at the age of 23.

“It was not my aim to do the right thing and become editor or anything, so I wore tennis shoes to work and went in with my hair wet and did all kinds of things to guarantee that would never take place, but I did like being there,” Didion said.

Being a successful women 23 year-old Joan teach us to dream big… to want more than we are given. It is important to never settle for less than what you originally set out to achieve.

All of these women had one thing in common. They all had plenty to learn. Their examples show success is in reach for the ambitions of those currently faced with similar decisions. Whether you’re 23 or 83, these lessons are relatable and can be used in the formula for you to attain serious success.
