4 key tips you need to follow to start your own business

on

After more than 23 years of design experience, and a string of success in creating global best-selling lingerie wear, I took some time away from the industry to create and explore. Now I’ve launched my own collection of luxury lingerie. I learned a lot in turning my passion into starting my own business.

1. Research, research, research

So you’re ready to turn that idea into a business… doing your homework on the industry and your target market would be the very first step in the process of taking your idea and turning it into a business. The best thing that you can do is to ask around and get some feedback from a business mentor or someone that has a strong background within the industry you are looking to launch into.

For me; taking my two passions of art and lingerie and launching Naran Lingerie was a natural progression. Having worked within the lingerie industry for over 23 years, I had a good grasp of both the Australian and International market and worked the concept of Naran Lingerie around that.

2. Learn new skills

You can never stop learning, at the beginning not everything will go exactly to plan and you will have to learn and pick up skills that you have not been across previously.

With passion and enthusiasm getting you through to the finish line you will pick up many new skills along the way that will help you overcome barriers and help in the decision process, whether it be customers, product, marketing or finance.

3. Don’t be afraid of hard work

Starting your own business, won’t be easy by any means. At the beginning it will be a lot of hard work, long hours and wearing different hats to keep things going.

Let’s face it, if being an entrepreneur was easy – then everyone would do it. If you have an idea or industry that you are passionate about, do your research (before taking the plunge) and give it your best effort. You’ve got no reason not to; just know that it will take a lot of work to get it off the ground and keep going. But once you’ve accomplished what you’ve set out, the hard work pays off.

4. Surround yourself with like-minded people

Keeping motivated when things don’t go to plan, is not easy. Surrounding yourself with a great support network of friends and colleagues will help you get through some tough times.

If your idea is something that you are passionate about and that you enjoy doing, the business will flourish in time – it won’t happen overnight and your support network will help keep you grounded.
