Refresh your Business: Are you an introvert or extrovert?

Success in organising and operating a small business is highly correlated with an individual’s tendency toward extroversion.

Extroverted individuals are sociable, active, occasionally impulsive, and enjoy working with people.

They draw their energy from others and their charm and charisma help them to gain support from customers, staff, and suppliers.

Introverted individuals are more territorial, reflective, hesitant and prefer to work in solitude.

They can find it difficult to develop the kind of interpersonal relationships that attract customers, motivate staff and encourage suppliers to look after them.

So if this is the case, Katrena recommends not identifying yourself as an introvert or extrovert at all.  Rather visualising a spectrum from introverted at one end and extraverted on the other end and asking yourself how much breath of behaviour you have access to.

For example when I write I am doing an introverted behaviour and I can be quiet and reflective while writing.  However, when I go on stage to do a key note speech, I access my extravert, who will do a better job at this activity.

How much of the spectrum do you have access to?  If you find that you don’t have a broad breath of behaviour, then work on stretching your comfort zone.  I was born an introvert and have developed my ability over time to do extroverted behaviours, making them apart of who I am as a person.  Eventually the behaviour becomes congruent and natural.

I work with a lot of women on their confidence, assertiveness, self -belief and self-worth.  I love helping women with their ability to speak up and speak out, so they can become as successful as possible in their field of excellence.  If you have always said, you are an introvert, then stop saying it and start working on stepping out of your comfort zone.  It is only true if you believe it.

Being able to access both sides of the spectrum at will is one of the secrets to business success.
