Women leaders in the Asian Century

on

Carolin Hong, President and Chair of China HR Australia and CEO of CH Asia Australia shares her views on how the ‘Asian Century’ offers opportunities for women leaders to be relevant and have an authentic voice.

Australia is a land of opportunity for women leaders in the Asian Century. Sure, more has to be done and more can be done.  The Asian Century opens up many opportunities for women leaders.

But are we seizing the opportunities?

A recent Asia Link survey of 400 businesses shows many Australian businesses are hungry for information and cultural training to help them engage with Asia. However, many do not know where to find such information.

What are we witnessing in Australia?

Australia is a multicultural and multilingual country with people from more than 270 ancestries. There are at least 400 languages including indigenous languages. After English, Mandarin is the most commonly spoken language.

What does it mean for Australian women leaders in the Asian Century?

Asia is important to Australia. Asia’s economic rise and growing middle class are Australia’s gain. China’s five year plan has created economic opportunities for Australia in diverse sectors including technology, healthcare, tourism, financial services, agriculture, resources and education.

How are we staying relevant and responding to these opportunities?

We all have our own authentic voice.  Authenticity is key to building trust and relationships. Sometimes and in fact most times, we are too afraid to show our authentic voice.

Imagine how much better it could be.
