Measuring your website’s success: the 3 main factors

In business, we’re often told that we need a successful website. Everyone always bangs on about it, and we immediately nod our heads in agreement and start building a site. What’s interesting is that very few people actually stop and think to themselves; what makes a website successful?

Or, more to the point, how can you measure the success of your website? Is a pretty looking website that works on mobile devices successful? Is a website with lots of traffic deemed a success? We want to know how you can look at our business website and say yes, this is a successful site that’s helping our company.

You’ll be pleased to know there is no secret formula you need to use to figure this out. Likewise, you don’t have to do much detective work to come to a conclusion. All you really have to do is pay attention to a few key factors relating to your website. To help you out, we’ve listed these factors in this article, all you’ve got to do is give them a read!

How much traffic does your site get?

It was mentioned earlier, and traffic is a key factor when you’re determining the success of your site. However, it’s important that you look at web traffic as part of the whole package. Having a site with a lot of traffic won’t necessarily mean it’s successful. But, it does mean that you’re doing something right as a lot of people are visiting your site and becoming accustomed to your business.

You see, for every visitor you get, that’s one person that your business opens up to. Your exposure is increased, and it can have a knock on effect, but we’ll talk about that later. If your site isn’t getting any traffic, then you know there’s a problem. In this situation, you can get an SEO marketing company to test your site, so you know why it’s not bringing in any traffic. Then, you can work on changing things until you see your numbers increase. This will put you on the path to a successful site.

How many leads do you generate?

The second thing you need to consider is how many leads are you generating? This has a direct link to your traffic, and it’s one of the most important factors in deciding if a site is successful or not. When you generate leads, it means that people visit your site, and you gain their information. They express an interest in something relating to your business, and you’ve now got a way of contacting them to pursue this interest.

Successful websites will draw in lots of web traffic and have a high conversion rate or leads. They’ll secure email addresses from their traffic, which they can then use to send email marketing to and convince them to become fully-fledged customers. If your site is getting a lot of traffic, but you aren’t generating many leads, then it won’t have the best effect possible. You need to combine traffic with a good lead generation system, and your website will be more effective.

You could also link the bounce rate of your site into this point too. This is a term used to describe how many people leave your site without venturing onto any other pages. If you have a high bounce rate, it probably means you have a low conversion rate. So, the lower the bounce rate, the better!

How many new customers are you gaining?

Of course, generating leads is excellent, but you always want to go that one step further. What’s better than loads of leads? Loads of paying customers! A business website is successful if it takes lots of traffic, converts a large percentage into leads, and then turns these leads into customers that invest their money in the business.

If your business allows customers to buy/pay for things on your site, it’s easy to see how many new customers you’re gaining. You simply look at all the transactions to see how many people paid for things via your site. If you operate a business where the aim of your site is to get people to call your company or visit you for your service, then it might be harder. You have to track each customer’s path to see if they found you via your site or not. Either way, the more customers your website is generating, the more money you’ll make and the more successful it is.

That’s all there is to it people, just three things you need to consider. Take a look at your site and see if it’s getting a lot of traffic, helping you generate leads, and turning these leads into customers. If it is, then it can be deemed successful.
