If you are a religious follower of the hit TV series Suits, you’ll have a career-girlcrush on Donna.
And what she did at the end of Season 4 and beginning of Season 5 makes her a poster girl for women whom are tired of waiting… for ‘their man’. Donna is Harvey’s reliable executive assistant and his voice of reason.
She is one step ahead at all times and she ensures that his life runs as smoothly as possible. Donna is also Harvey’s best friend and ‘office wife’.
They are also in love with each other but are not together – allowing the scriptwriters to build some intense sexual tension.
Now while Harvey is killing it with his clients, Jessica (the managing partner) is keeping the ship moving forward, Mike (an associate) is busy being Harvey’s protégé, Louis is his usual pain in the arse self and Rachael is either crying or whining again… we were all waiting for Harvey and Donna to just get on with it and become a couple.
Unfortunately, the scenario of Harvey and Donna is all too common. The corporate shark who is too proud and scared to admit how he feels and the woman who waits years for him to finally ‘make his move and commit’.
Then finally something happened on Suits.
Donna had had enough. Of waiting.
Finally opening up — and being the straight shooter that she is — Donna “left” Harvey to work for another Partner in the firm.
She wanted more from Harvey but he still backed away. Although heartbreaking, I couldn’t help but scream out “YEEESSSSS” at the top of my lungs.
Why?
Because this was a win for women across the globe.
To know that the all-loyal, all-loving Donna has the ability to walk away from a situation that isn’t going to change has given us a clear display of that injection of confidence needed to walk away from relationships in our lives that just aren’t working.
So thank you Donna. For being awesome and for standing up for what you want, then letting go and moving on.
We love you.
