Boss Lady

I will work in this town again, but I will not work with you

on

Mila Kunis is leading the way when it comes to standing up for yourself against sexism and surviving. Threatened that she “would not work in this town again” (Hollywood, of course) because she wouldn’t pose semi naked on a magazine to promote a movie, she has brushed off the threat.

Women sometimes assume successful women don’t have the same issues as everyone else or that Hollywood is glamorous and indulging of women. It’s not. It’s as hard a grind and can be as demeaning as just about every field women have to compete in… and maybe more than some.

And you can bet we have to compete in every field. Women everywhere are being subjected to bullying and threatening statements like this — fearing if they don’t comply their careers are over, or will never get off the ground.

As Mila states “It’s what we are conditioned to believe — that if we speak up, our livelihoods will be threatened; that standing our ground will lead to our demise”

How did she respond? By starting her own production company with three other women. Oh … and yes, she did get her way. And yes, she did work in Hollywood again. And again. And again.

I personally can relate.

Trying to be a business woman in the media world, I was told by men on a regular basis I needed to either sleep with the producers or be a weather girl… That no-one wanted to hear a woman talk about “women’s issues” in business.

Ha!

So I started Business Woman media and within 3 months of launching it was quoted in TIME.com.

Standing up for yourself is the beginning of a journey you were meant to be on in the first place. Being an example for future generations and creating opportunities for other women.
