How to find high-quality leads when you’re a startup

on

Every business needs to find high-quality leads if the business owner wants it to be as successful as possible. As a startup, this can be one of the most challenging elements of all; how can you find these high-quality leads when you’re so new? Yet how can you grow and become well known without the leads? It’s a real catch-22 situation and one that causes a great deal of frustration for business owners everywhere.

Even when you’re more established in your business and you’re aware of all the tips for being a solopreneur that will help you run an effective company, leads can still be hard to find. So as a startup, it may even seem impossible. There is so much competition, and customers are so savvy – and skeptical – when they are buying from a new company, finding the key that unlocks this particular business problem is crucial. Luckily, there are many ways to do it.

Lead generation challenges

Unless you know what your business’s lead generation challenges are, it’s going to be hard to get over them and start bringing in high quality leads to your business. It will often be different from business to business, but some of the main issues include:

  • Finding enough high-quality leads
  • Measuring the success of any marketing strategy for lead generation
  • Finding the right channels for advertising
  • Nurturing leads so they turn into sales
  • Working within a small budget – or any budget

Once you can determine what your set of lead generation challenges are and you can come up with a plan to solve each problem, high-quality leads will be much easier to find. It still won’t be entirely plain sailing, of course; that’s why you should have some ideas on maximizing the qualified leads that come your way. Read on to find out more.

Offer unique content

Content marketing is a useful tool for finding new leads. It’s actually the primary way you can interact with your potential customers, which is why it needs to be planned out carefully and thoughtfully. Content marketing can include many different elements, but the main focus should always be unique content. If you can do this, you will be able to stand out in a crowded marketplace, and people are much more likely to remember you.

There are seven main ways to introduce a good content marketing strategy into your business, and you don’t have to use all of them if it isn’t going to fit with your way of working. However, using at least one or two is going to maximize your chances of finding good leads.

You might:

  • Create webinars (for free)
  • Create online courses
  • Send out an email newsletter which could include special offers and deals
  • Have independent research carried out and publish the results
  • Have useful infographics on your website
  • Write an eBook that can be downloaded for free
  • Offer free trials – this will depend on what you are selling

Content marketing can be an ideal lead generation tactic as long as the content is unique and you have researched exactly which type of content marketing is going to be best for you and your customers.

SEO

SEO, or search engine optimization, is hugely important when it comes to generating high-quality leads. SEO can be a complicated process which is why many entrepreneurs choose to outsource this particular element of their marketing, but in essence, SEO is the process of ensuring your website is found more quickly (that is, it’s at or near the top of any search engine results) by potential customers. The higher you can rank on search engines, the more likely it is that someone will click through to your site. Assuming you can then show them that you have what they are looking for, they will buy. Nothing is guaranteed, of course, but getting visitors to your site is undoubtedly a good start.

A great way to keep your SEO up to date is to have a blog on your site. Not only is this a form of content marketing – you are giving interesting content to your visitors – but it is also something that can be adjusted easily, thus enhancing your SEO. Regularly blogging on your site means the content is changing, and this is good for your SEO.

Email marketing

Email marketing has a few caveats linked to it, and the main one is that you must not send any marketing to anyone who has not expressly signed up for it or not opted out of it. However, if you make it a practice to ask people to sign up for your newsletter or marketing emails every time they buy something from you, or even if they are just browsing your site, you’ll find that many do – at least, those who are genuinely interested in what you are selling will, as they are keen to find out about your products and services.

This is why email marketing can produce such high-quality leads. Firstly, you’ll have the people who have expressly signed up because they want to know more, as mentioned above. You’ll also be able to capture other people’s attention with special offers, new product teasers, and other useful – unique – content. You might even want to link your newsletter to your blog so you have a theme and so that people are more likely to click through to your site to find out more.

Your email marketing can also serve to remind people who haven’t bought from you for a while that you are there and that they might want to use your services again.

Social media

Businesses that don’t have a social media account on at least one platform miss out on some high-quality leads that they wouldn’t be able to achieve elsewhere. So many people use social media that they will search there first when they want to know more about a business – they will search there before looking online in general.

If you can have some great information, offers, and an easy way for people to get in touch with you, as well as being able to show that you interact well with your potential customers, you can find some excellent leads this way.
