If you want to become a successful online entrepreneur, you will need to keep your costs down as much as possible and while setting up your own site and investing in your own domain name might seem more expensive, it allows you to have more control over how you market your products. Besides, you can start your own blog too, as well as offer advertising opportunities to others, both of which can supplement your income. When you have your own site, you can take advantage of SEO optimization. Selling on another site means that you have to deal with all sorts of algorithms that are out of your control.

Use social media to spread the word

You need to make yourself into a brand and become a reliable and familiar part of your customer’s lives. You should, therefore, consider running dedicated social media accounts. Facebook and Twitter are indispensable in the modern marketplace, but sites like Instagram are perfect because the visual element is crucial to advertising products (rather than services). While it may seem like a lot of work, it probably also sounds like a much better deal than a nine to five job in an office.

Emphasise your creativity

In terms of actually creating your products, you will likely be able to advertise the fact they are individually hand made by the owner. In an era when some of the downsides of globalized business are becoming well known to consumers, you can offer them a local, non-exploitive service and compete with major corporations. However, when you start to enjoy some success, you may need to take on employees to refine your manufacturing process. No one said setting up your own business would be easy, but it can certainly be rewarding.
